Now that the calendar has flipped over to December, it’s officially time to get into the Christmas spirit. If you’re one of the many Americans who require a wheelchair to get around, you have that much more of an opportunity to share the jolly mood with all those around you. Don’t worry about hanging lights or decorations from your roof or walls if you’re not able to; you can accomplish the same effect by dressing up your wheelchair for the holidays!
Here are four ways you can decorate your wheelchair for the final days and weeks of the year. The body content of your post goes here. To edit this text, click on it and delete this default text and start typing your own or paste your own from a different source.
A little bit of greenery can go a long way. Simply hanging a wreath from the back of your wheelchair is an easy, clear way to convey the fact that you’re excited for the holidays. All you need are some zip ties to secure the wreath on the back of the wheelchair seat. You could also place the wreath on one of the armrests of the wheelchair as long as it isn’t too heavy or large. (Just do not use a nail, or a pin, to stick it to the back of the wheelchair, as that not only pokes a hole in the wheelchair’s back that cannot be easily fixed, but it could pose an injury risk to you as well.) However you may choose to add a wreath to your wheelchair, though, you’re sure to get your message across- it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Are you feeling like letting your holiday energy radiate around your presence? Light up the night with a string of small holiday lights, just the same way you would for a Christmas tree. The only difference for your wheelchair is that you cannot be near an outlet at all times, so you’re going to require lights that operate with the power of a battery. You can buy these at your local hardware store. Just remember to charge them up before leaving your house, make sure the cord and the lights are not in your way or touching the ground (so you don’t accidentally wheel right over them) and you’re good to go!
Perhaps the easiest way to use your wheelchair as a launching point for the Christmas spirit is by attaching stickers or patches to the back of the seat that spread the mood. Like bumper stickers on a car, the back of your wheelchair is the perfect place to let those behind you know your beliefs and feelings on certain things, and when Christmas approaches, there’s no better method of giving off positive holiday vibes! Whether you choose to go with a sticker of Santa on his sleigh, patches of snowflakes, or even just a sticker that simply says, “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays” in a fancy font, you can’t go wrong.
